Acorn Thanksiving

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Here is the next group of cards I did for my friends Thanksgiving card order … again, using long hoarded stickers. I’ve used them all up now and I can’t decide if I feel good about USING them, or bad about not having any more! Sheesh.

There is an embossed panel that was done with a Cuttlebug and embossing folder, and the scalloped & white rectangles were cut with my Nestabilities dies.

Indian Corn Card

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Here are a few more cards that I did for my friends Thanksgiving Card order …

GinasIndianCorn

The stickers are by Mrs. Grossman (of course) and came from my hoard of stickers. Because we didn’t have a good selection of stickers for many MANY years … every time we visited the US I would buy as many as I could find. Then bring them back to Canada and hoard them, ha ha ha. I’m getting better, aren’t I?  :-)  I ran the tan card stock through my Cuttlebug with the paisly embossing folder to get the textured strip.

Autumn Apple Card

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I just loved this autumn leaf and apple paper when I saw it, and of course - had to HOARD it for a couple of years before I could bring myself to cut into it.  However, they did make nice CAS (clean and simple) cards once I did!GinasAppleCardI wish I’d noticed how washed out the colours are showing in the paper, as I probably could have brightened them up to show what it looks like it real life.

Have a good Monday - thanks for stopping by!

Heather’s Birthday Card

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

This is the card I made for Heather’s birthday. The flowered patterned cardstock is actually a recycled card - it was my Mother’s day card from Kelsey!HeathersBirthdayCard09We’ve had a busy couple of days, with family visiting from out of town. What great weather to be able to enjoy the sights!

Forever and Always

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Oh Yipee!!  My new Sizzix Wedding Embossing Folders arrived yesterday. I have seen some cards done with them and thought I would get a fair bit of use out of them with Heather’s upcoming wedding.

This is the first card I made using the folders, it’s for the CAS (Clean and Simple)33 challenge at Split Coast! We were to follow a sketch for this one:

CardForeverAndAlways

After my complaints about the Spellbinders embossing plates not being very deep, these Sizzix ones are over the top! I actually did two at a time, as it was cracking the single sheet. Wow - amazing! I used my Cuttlebug to run the folders through and they worked like a charm.  I only used one embossing folder for this card — the words and dotted frame are all one folder. However, I trimmed the words off that 2nd embossed piece so I could matt it and re-attach with foam tape and a ribbon. The punched flower has a little pearl in the center.

We could break temperature records again today — woo hoo! Just in time for family coming out to visit this morning. They will be happy to see the sunshine — last time they were here it was cold and  Donna wore her green fleece sweater from the time she woke up until she crawled into bed.  For like 10 days!!  It is going to be a busy few days, so if I don’t get a chance to post … I’ll be back!

Shimmery Leaf Card

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Happy first day of FALL! I still feel like it should be August, but with the weather we’ve been enjoying this month — I can take an autumn like this.  Actually, I love fall - the crisp blue sky, the leaves changing colours and how they look against that crisp blue sky. Apples … yup - I do love fall!

A friend wanted some Thanksgiving cards, so I have a few of those to post in the next week … this is the first one. Again, with a low-res web photo, you can’t see the shimmer — but the leaf has this beautiful metallic shimmer on it!

ShimmeryLeafCard

I used some digital stamps (Altered Fragments Fall Digital Stamps), adding colour with a soft digital brush before printing the images out on creamy astroparche cardstock.  I printed several on one sheet and then sprayed them with a copper Glimmer Mist! A Stampin’ Up label punch cut it out, then the edges were inked before attaching it with foam tape and a narrow strip of paper. The same colour ink was used to ink the edges of the crackled paper. Oh, this is not an A2 card … it’s one of the larger cards from the packs that Michaels sells.

Here is a look at the digital stamps I used …

Today is going to be fun … for the first time since June, my friends D and J are coming over to play!  LOL - we started out scrapbooking, but now D and I mostly make cards while J works on her scrapbooks. We chat and laugh and cheer each other up and on. It’s the BEST therapy!

Thanks for stoppin by - enjoy your day!

Wolf Shaker Card

Monday, September 21st, 2009

I have a CAS (clean and simple) Shaker card to share this morning. It’s hard to see, and I wish I’d taken a detail shot of the clear beads that are sitting around the wolf’s nose in this card. But they are there! I used a ‘naked’ slide mount for the front of the shaker … I tried adding colour and covering it with papers, but they all distracted from the tiny wolf image. So, naked it was!

WolfShaker

The words are stamped on a vellum panel, which is held to the card with a strip of the marbled background paper. The cards and matching envelopes were from Michaels. I found them in the bargain bins months ago, and - gasp - USED them all up! No hoarding!!

I have to swing by the post office today, to send off a HUGE box of cards. I didn’t actually count them, but going by the number of “hand-made by” labels I went through, there are at least 100 cards/envelopes in the box. I found a thread on the forums at Split Coast, where a lady was collecting cards to send to our troops. They can then send cards back to their families. She mentioned that baby cards were requested, and that about breaks my heart … that the soldiers are sending welcome baby cards back to their families, not even able to meet their new family members. Children’s birthday cards were also high on the list, so I had fun going through my stash of ready-made cards and getting them ready to go. I’m so excited to be able to show our support in this small way. Most of the cards are blank, thinking of you type … as I had no time to do others. I found the tread yesterday and they have to be in the mail - expedited - this morning. However, I did get some Christmas, Baby and Birthday cards as well.

Thanks for stopping by - have a great week!

Butterfly Sympathy

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

I wanted to play with my new Nestabilities embossing templates … they are GORGEOUS, but not nearly as nice to use as the Cuttlebug Embossing Folders. First of all, the impression isn’t as deep or crisp, they suggest you dampen the cardstock before running it through the CBug, and I had to turn it and run it through again to get an even embossing. Those CBug Embossing Folders have spoiled me for sure. So, I ended up just embossing the one panel as my playtime was over!

Card_ButterfliesSympathy

I rubbed dye ink over the surface with a sponge; the lacy square (from a Spellbinders Pendant die) and the butterflies (a Martha Stewart punch) are a pretty pearl white paper. I used a  computer to print With Sympathy then stamped around it with a SU label stamp and Copic Markers to add colour around the edge.

LOL - I love butterflies, and I tried REALLY HARD not to buy that Martha Stewart butterfly punch. I have a butterfly punch … not as nicely shaped, but still. I resisted for a few months until Michaels came out with a coupon that included MS goodies. The punch is now mine … isn’t it pretty??

Sue’s Birthday Card

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Still using that wonderful sketch (SC241), this is the card I made for Sue’s birthday.  LOL it’s one that looks better in real life though … as the glitter isn’t showing up and the pink cake is not quite that bright:
