Dry Embossed Daisy Card

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

I thought this would make a great get-well card, with the bright colours. The verse was added after I took this picture - so unfortunately you can’t see the white linen paper insert. The basket, flower, leaves and snail were dry embossed using a light box and brass stencils.

Dry Embossed Daisy Card

I have lots and LOTS of scrapbook papers that I use for cardmaking.  Remember my hoarding tendencies? I really wanted to USE some of it up before I bought new sheets, in fact - even thought I might be able to go through my whole stack before I bought new. Even then - I could just print some of my own digital papers when I needed some. Yeah - that idea didn’t work. I have a couple of new paper stacks and I’m LOVING them. The green background paper on the card is from one of the packages.

Oh well - I will keep trying to use up the older stuff –  and at least I’m not hoarding anymore. A few years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to bring myself to cut into the new paper sheets right away. I must be getting better!   :-)

On a side note … have you heard of “The Ride to Conquer Cancer“?  This is a 200 km bike journey in the Rockey Mountains, June 27 & 28 2009. My son and his friends are going to participate in it, so are collecting sponsor donations to benefit the cause. They each have to raise $2500 to participate - so every little bit you can contribute will help. Remember what a worthy cause this is! I am so proud of these young men, undertaking something like this to help others. I wish I could give you a direct link to their team, but the site doesn’t seem to allow that.

Follow the above link to the main site, then click on Alberta below the main image. It may take a few seconds for the provinces to show up.  On the left side, under “Welcome Visitors”, click on the DONATE button. (I’m trying to hotlink these just in case they start to work - try clicking directly on the DONATE link before you go to the main site link and see).

You will need to “Search for Participant” — type in   SHAUN AICKEN   and you will get to his ‘page’. Their team is Team Rainbow Trout. :-)  If you click on the bright yellow “Sponsor Shaun Aicken” button that will take you to where you can make your donation. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, and hopefully contribute to helping defeat the disease. I will be adding this to many of my posts between now and June, to help Team Rainbow Trout meet their goal and participate in the “Ride to Conquer Cancer“.

Spring Flower Cards

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

It’s COLD here today … but they are forecasting milder temps for the weekend, so that is something to look forward to. I am SO ready for Spring, that I’m popping 2 Spring (get well) cards into my cousin’s card order:

The detail shot…

I just LOVE the dimension in these K&Co stickers, and the touch of glitter. So classy but still bright and fun. The sheer, blue/green varigated ribbon is one of my favourites.

ATC - Inspire

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Just wanted to share one of the ATC’s that Sue sent me this month with our “first”. I love the embossed frame and the cool metallic background she created!

ATC - Inspire

I got some card panels made yesterday — I get together with friends each week to play in my studio. However, since they aren’t mounted and finished I won’t post them yet.

I also found a small, inexpensive scanner yesterday - so that was exciting. My scanner has been hooped for months, but the rest of the printer — even the copy function — works just fine. I didn’t want to replace the printer, since I’m so happy with IT … but I sure need a scanner. Got the new one hooked up and working last night, so will now get even more use out of my Nestabilities dies!

I have most of Sue’s March first envelope ready to go, so scanned in some of the things I’ve made for her and will share them once she has received her envelope.

It’s COLD and SNOWY here in Calgary today - I’m SO waiting for Spring to come. I can even take the snow — it’s the cold that is wearing me down. Hopefully soon…

Layered Envelope

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Another card for my cousins pack … using up my dry embossed bits and pieces:

Envelope Layers

The raised stripes were done BY HAND using a brass stencil and a lightbox. Between the Spellbinders Wizard and the Cuttlebug — you can sure do dry embossing quickly nowadays. :-) The embossed background panel was done with my Cuttlebug and an embossing folder.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Earthy Thanks

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

My cousin has ordered 20 cards … this is one of the ‘thank you’ cards going into her pack. I will also be adding some of the cards I’ve already made and posted to give her a good selection.

Earthy Thanks

I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder on a piece of patterned card stock, then lightly inked the raised edges with dye ink and a sponge. Added some Prima flowers, brads, and some sheer ribbon to complete the card.

Irridescent Heart Card

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Years ago (and I do mean YEARS ago), I was lucky enough to get to a sticker warehouse while visiting Ontario. It was like stepping into heaven, ha ha. The girls and I stocked up … and I still have some of the stickers we bought in the “seconds” area. These irridescent dove & heart stickers were one of our purchases … and I used up the last 4 this week making Valentine cards (for next year) and Anniversary/Engagement/Wedding cards.

Irridescent Heart Card

I used my Nestability label die, and a Stampin’ Up stamp on a pretty pink pearl card. Unfortunately you can’t see either the irridescent effect on the sticker, OR the pearl shimmer on the card with this web-ready photo. But they are really pretty!

Thanks for stopping by today - have a great Sunday!

Birthday Word-Art for Cards, Set Two

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Guess what? I got inspired by ONE verse, and made a whole 10 piece set of birthday word art. These are perfect, as one can go on the outside of your card - and there is a matching one for the inside! They also work on layouts, but I can’t WAIT to play with them on some cards!

BDWordArt4CardsSet2

Oh, and I included the green background (the darker one on the bottom layer of the preview) as a bonus.

Find them HERE.  They are 20% off until February 23rd. Below are two cards I made using the word-art printed out:

One Year Older

Credits for the stamp - David Walker for Uptown Rubber Stamps. I used my Copics to colour in the stamp, and outline the key words in the word-art.

Anniversary Cards

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

These were the first things I made when I opened my new Nestabilies label dies a few weeks ago. The heart punch has long been a favourite, and the Cuttlebug embossed background adds a touch of elegance to these cards.

AnnivCards

Each card has a white linen insert, with an Anniversary verse printed inside - I did the printing on the computer so I could take advantage of my wonderful fonts. My parents celebrate their 51st Anniversary this month, so one of these cards is for them. :-)
