Digital Birthday Card

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

This is a birthday card for a friend … I’m emailing it to her this morning as today is her birthday.

DigiBDCard

Credits - almost everything came from Lettering Delights. I was able to take full advantage of their “Dollar Days”, and picked up some new digital images. It feels a little strange, as for almost 6 years I only purchased items I had commercial use for and  made my own items to sell at E-scapeandscrap.net. However, since retiring from digital designing - I’m having fun using other designers work. Guilt free!  The dotted paper is my own, and I adjusted the colour on most of the digital elements so they would all coordinate.

If I was printing this, I would print it on glossy photo paper, and mount it on a folded 7×5 card. I would also print a 2nd bird/word panel, ink the edges and mount it with foam tape over the original.

Note Card Gift Set - Card 3

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Here is another note card that I am putting into Anne’s gift set. The panel was done a long time ago - back when I first started doing digital. I quite like it though, so have always kept the file on my computer to reprint occasionally. This one is printed onto a pretty semi-gloss photo paper. The transparency was inspired by a real one at the scrapbook store - only IT was 12×12 and too big to use on my A-2 card.

I’m going to take a break from Anne’s note cards for the next few days as I will have lots of birthday creations to share!

Note Card Gift Set - Card 1

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I have the BEST dentist, and he has the BEST staff. Honestly! I have been going to him for over 25 years … and when I started going to him I would lay in the chair and cry I was so scared. He would have one of his staff come in and hold my hand. I’m much better now, ha ha — but only because he was so good with me. I have a cleaning coming up and I like to bring the hygienist (Anne) a set of cards. She loves them — and actually USES them. It does your heart good when you give someone a gift that they really like! Some of  the cards (I will include 6 in the set) I have already posted at one time or another, so I will just show you the ones you haven’t seen before.

GardeningIs

I did the word-art, then printed it on a transparency. The beautiful daisy is actually a sticker, and I used white eyelets to hold the transparency onto the printed paper panel.

Thinking of You Hybrid Card

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

This is a hybrid card I did for Sue, for our June exchange …

HybridCard4SueJune09

I used one of my own overlays (resized from 12×12″ to 5.25 x 5.25″), and digitally painted it using a soft edged brush. I added the text, then printed it out on an ink-jet transparency sheet. Here is another look …

HybridCard4SueJune092

After printing, trimming and scoring, I sewed the printed transparency sheet to a white Bazzil square card.  A teal circle was cut & embossed with a Nestabilities and attached to the white card under the words on the transparency. I also printed the painted square and words of friendship on a 5.25 x 5.25″ panel of printer paper, at a reduced opacity to put inside.

When you print a transparency, you need to flip what you are printing. You are actually printing onto the rough, or back side of the transparency. I thought my printer would do it automatically the first go-round, but … nope. So I had a printed piece with the words in reverse. I salvaged a strip and attached it to the bottom of a square white envelope with 2 faced tape.

Thanks for stopping by today - HAPPY CANADA DAY !!!!!!!!!!!

Gift Box Insert

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

I ordered a bunch of plastic boxes - the kind you purchase note cards in at Hallmark. They LOOK great when filled with cards, but will also help protect the cards when I am giving them as gifts. I wanted to figure out another way to use them, so — without a lot of time — this is what I came up with:

GiftBoxInsert

I attached this to the inside cover of the box (remember they are completely clear) so it showed through the plastic. I added the little gifts to the box base (gift-card, photo of a gift that is “on it’s way”, and I found I could even fit a wrapped Kit Kat chocolate bar inside!!) and put this decorated lid. The intent was then to tie it up with some raffia - it was for Father’s Day and I wanted something more masculine than ribbon - but it didn’t need anything.

Oh, this insert was done digitally (remember I was short on time) but could also be made using traditional paper scrapping supplies. While a whole wrap - top, bottom & sides -  would be a nice way to present the cards,  I like the idea of being able to SEE the cards through the plastic. That way the recipient can see that they are all different (my usual) or all the same (every so often I do that) from the outside. I doubt I will use this type of insert for card gifts, but since I have quite a few of these boxes I thought it would be fun to find another use for them. The bonus? This is reusable for another gift another time!!

I used my kit “Take Flight” for most of the insert … the flourishes are from a kit I’m discontinuing today. Take Flight can be found HERE:

Father’s Day Hybrid Card

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

I used my Our Dad Paper Pack  and Father’s Day Word-Art 2 to create this hybrid card:

Father’s Day Hybrid Card

First I sized the panels for the Nestabilities dies, and created a 4.25 x 5.75″ panel using a couple of the backgrounds and stitching by Manuella Zimmermann @ ScrapbookGraphics. I printed these out on a sheet of matte photo paper:

Father’s Day Hybrid Card - printed sheet

After cutting out my dies, I inked all the edges and added 2 sheer stickers to the base card panel:

Father’s Day Hybrid Card - cut and ready to assemble

Finally, I assembled the pieces with 2 faced tape, and added 2 brads before attaching to the folded 4.5 x 6″ white card.
