Cheery Friendship Card

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I have a few ’summery’ cards to share, and since our weather is screaming FALL I want to get them posted and out of the way. If I can’t have a summer, I may as well embrace the fall.

This bright and cheery card was made using one of my new paper packs - the ones I found on clearance at Winners. Its such a nice quality and I enjoyed cutting all the different papers up to make cards out of.  This floral pattern matched the SU ‘Pink Pirouette” card stock! The label was Cricut cut — I cut a 12×12 sheet of them, so I’d have some on hand for quick cards.

CheeryFriendshipCard

I added some deetail with my Sakura glitter gel pen - I sure get a lot of use out of that pen!! I’m not sure who makes the (clear) stamps - there are no markings on the acetate backing sheet.

Pearlized Bird Punched card

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Sasha update: Well this seems to be good news! The Vet called yesterday with the results of Sasha’s blood panel, and everything is in the normal range. Sooooooo … Dr. Schell thinks this must have been ‘reactive lymph nodes’, and sparked by her recent vaccine booster. Dr. Schell said it’s just too coincidental that the day after the vaccine Sasha has a big edema around her neck, then the following week her lymph nodes are huge and she is lethargic and ill.  Now, it’s unusual for a dog to have a reaction to the ‘kennel cough’ vaccine — but it’s the only thing she had recently. Sasha’s file has been flagged and Dr. Schell doesn’t want to give her any more vaccines.

For the next few days, Sasha is supposed to take it easy (like she can sleep any more than she has been?  LOL) and have Chamomile tea infused brown rice  (yes, you read that right — brown rice cooked in steeped Chamomile tea) with chicken. Sasha is a pretty happy Collie come meal time, and the other two sit and wait for her to finish so they can scoop any bits left in her bowl. We will aspirate the lymph nodes in a week or so and run another test - just to be sure - but for now, Sasha is out of the woods! What a roller coaster, but we are happy things seem to be working out!

Onto today’s post:  Another card made with the SU 2Step Bird Punch. Once I realized I hadn’t used it that much, I made up for lost time.  :-) The blue card stock panel has such a pretty sheen to it!

PearlizedBirdPunchedCard

I used a Sizzix die and a Big Shot to cut the scallopy label from white embossed card stock - leftover from H&P’s wedding invites, and a scrap of green patterned paper for the branch.

PearlizedBirdPunchedCardDetail

The bird body was punched out of  packaging from a set of Verve Stamps (it’s too pretty to toss in recycling) and the wings out of a scrap of blue pearlized card stock.

I’ve left the inside blank for now, and will add a sentiment when I’m ready to send the card. That way I can personalize it!

Just a Note Butterfly card

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I’m on the fly this morning, so won’t spend any time chatting. Just a quick card to post!

JustANoteButterflyCard

The layout was based on a card in the January 2009 Cards magazine. The white scalloped border was Cricut-cut using the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge, and the butterfly is a K&Co 3-d sticker. Patterned paper is from my stash - by ProvoCraft, I believe. The pointed end strip is by Martha Stewart and the word stamp is by Stampendous.

Bouquet card

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Sasha update:  Well after several crazy panting spurts, and swollen lips yesterday  afternoon - Sasha settled and slept ALL NIGHT in the same spot. It’s chilly here in the mountains today so last night we opened the bedroom window for her. (We just put a comforter on our bed.)  This morning the swelling at her throat isn’t as hard so hopefully she will have a good day. I will be happy to get to the vet tomorrow afternoon and see what she has to say.

Onto todays post … I Cricut-cut the flowers and vase with their layers then popped them off the embossed light orange panel with foam tape.

BouquetCard

I did some outlining with my Sakura glitter gel pen. I love that thing. :-) The orange embossed panel is Bazzil Bling card stock and has a neat pearlized sheen. I used an embossing folder, but only on part of the folder. The Scor Pal was used to create the horizontal lines.

BouquetCardDetail

I believe this flower cut is on the Beyond Birthday’s cartridge, but if you want to know for sure - leave me a comment and I will look it up for you.

Black and Cream Telephone card

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

No news from the vet yet, so I will be ‘patiently’ waiting until this afternoon before I start to call them. Waiting for test results = Not Fun.

Here is another card from the group of black and cream ones I made up awhile ago, using patterned paper from K&Co.

BlkCreamTelephoneCard

This telephone die was Cricut cut from the Heritage cartridge, then run through the Big Shot with the ‘Bubbles’ Cuttlebug embossing folder.

A Perfect Pair card

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

My Mom ordered a card for their friends 65th Wedding Anniversary, so this is what I came up with:

PerfectPearCard

The cuts were on the Sweethearts cartridge and I thought they would be fitting. The ladies shoe is cut out of Bazzil Bling card stock, so it has a nice shimmer and I added stickles to the heart. The background was embossed with a 5×7 Cuttlebug embossing folder, then spritzed with Glimmer mist. I outlined it with a sparkle pen which really shows up against the black mat.  :-)

PerfectPearDetail

The words were also spritzed with Glimmer mist, and layered with a double layer of foam tape. The card was hand delivered,, so we weren’t worried about bulk. The verse inside was computer printed on a white paper with silver sparkles through it, and it’s about how wonderful life is when the right person stands beside you.

12 Tags of 2010 - July

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

I have a very photo heavy post for you today! The first of every month Sue and I pop something in the mail to each other. This year, inspired by Tim Holtz “12 Tags of Christmas”, I decided to do the “12 Tags of 2010″. This is the tag I sent Sue for July … I tried my hand at designing a word book. Now this isn’t a mini-album - there is no room for pictures. It’s just a fancy tag that’s meant to look like a mini-album!

This first picture shows the book tag closed - the pages were designed on my Gypsy and cut out with my Cricut. I used the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge for the letters and page shapes. The back tag is about 6″ long and 3.5″ wide so it’s a nice size.

12Tags2010July-1

I got to use my Bind-It-All for this project, which is always FUN. Love that thing. Plus, I found the 1/2″ ‘O Wires’ on clearance which never fails to make me happy.

12Tags2010July-2

The “J” and the “U” pages are flipped over, and here is the “L” page — I used that sweet Stampin’ Up bird punch on this page.

12Tags2010July-3a

Here is the “Y” page. I used a Tim Holtz embossing folder, and alcohol inks. Never tried his inks on paper before and I liked the way it came out! The dragonfly is a 3-d sticker by K&Co.

12Tags2010July-4

The patterned paper used was mostly by Tim Holtz, although I did use up some from my scrap drawer. This next photo shows the back page…

12Tags2010July-5

Another shot of the back pages…

12Tags2010July-6

I cut the back support tag out of brown Bazzill, and added a coloured paper reinforcer to the punched hole. Pretty fibres finished it off.

12Tags2010July-7

Finally, patterned paper and my Scor Pal combined to make the envelope. A Tim Holtz Die and my Big Shot were used for the label on the envelope.

12Tags2010July-8

All in all, this was a REALLY fun project to do. I got a good feel for making a word-book mini-album someday, got to play with fun papers and a minimum of embellishments, and my BIA.

Bee Happy

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Just a CAS summery card I sent to a pen-pal with her letter. I love this bee (and you don’t often hear me say THOSE words!!) which was Cricut-cut. I can’t remember which cartridge so if you would like to know leave me a message on this post and I’ll look through my handbooks and find the image for you.

BeHappyCard

I printed the words on my computer first, then used foam tape to attach the layered bee.

BeeHappyDetail

I actually worked on a Thanksgiving card last night, but I don’t want to hurry Summer along so won’t post it until it’s much closer to Thanksgiving. However … here is a little teaser.  :-)

MapleForestTeaser

Yup - a brand new SVG set was released last night and I couldn’t wait to download it and play. I’ll post full details with my card in a month or so.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Wine Glass Shaped Card

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

This is a tall shaped card, I made for a friend for her 50th birthday. (They enjoy a good wine, so I thought it would be a good card).  The cut file came from My Scrap Chick.

WineGlassShapedCard

I made an envelope out of pretty patterned paper, and attached punched butterflies (Martha Stewart) and some flat-backed glass marbles. I was hand-delivering the card, so I didn’t need to worry about bulk or damage going through the mail. I also added clear marbles to the card front, to resemble bubbles. (Not that good wine bubbles, haha).

The burgundy ‘wine’ portion was run through my “D’Vine Swirls” Cuttlebug embossing folder, and spritzed with glimmer mist for some sheen.

WineGlassShapedCard2

The card-base and stem are the back of the card. The burgundy section is the front, and lifts up to reveal the verse and where we signed it.

I thought it was such a cute card, but … I do like cards that stand on their own. I guess if I want to do more shaped cards, I will have to get over THAT!

Thanks for stopping by today - have a wonderful Sunday.

Mom’s Birthday Gift 2010

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Well I found the pictures of the little gift set I made my  Mom for her birthday … but they aren’t very good shots at all. The card stock I used is a creamy pale green - pearlized - with silvery flourishes.

I used the ‘Tags, Bags and Boxes’ cartridge to make the cute little purse. It used a full sheet of 12×12 card stock, so if I wanted it larger I’d have to use the 12×24″ cutting mat and card stock. This size was perfect for what I wanted it for though.

MomsBirthdayGift1

I added green self adhesive gems, and silver ribbon to the tags and purse.

MomsBirthdayGift2

Green floral eyelets are on the top of the purse, to allow for the ribbon purse handle. Nicer than just Cricut cut holes.  :-)

MomsBirthdayGift3

We gave her $$ for shopping, and the tags each have writing on the back giving her two shopping trips. It’s not much fun for my Dad to take her shopping, so this is a win-win for both of them! You can see a bit more of the green in the photo above.

MomsBirthdayGift4

Everything tucked in the purse - which is held closed with Velcro dots.
